Injections are given intramuscularly, divided evenly into three separate injection sites. Suitable injections sights include the pectoral muscles, the center of lower neck, and hind gluteal muscles. Use aseptic techniques when withdrawing each dose to decrease the possibility of post injection bacterial infections. Adequately clean and disinfect the stopper prior to entry with a sterile needle and syringe. Discard unused vial contents, as this is provided as single use vial and does not contain preservative. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose, and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give 2 doses at once. Side Effects: Most common side effects were signs of discomfort or nervousness, cramping, colic, and or pawing. Drug & Food Interactions: The following drugs can potentially interact with Osphos : aminoglycosides, digoxin, furosemide, phenylbutazone, and tetracyclines. Contact your veterinarian if your pet experiences any unusual reactions when different medications are given together. Make sure to tell your veterinarian what other medication you are giving to your pet. Quite often your veterinarian may prescribe two different medications, and a drug interaction may be anticipated. In this case, your veterinarian may vary the dose and or monitor your pet more closely. Cautions: Keep out of reach of children. Not for human use. If there is no response to initial therapy, the horse should be re evaluated. For horses that initially respond to Osphos but do not maintain clinical improvement for 6 months, Osphos may be re administered at 3 to 6 month intervals based on recurrence of clinical signs. For horses that respond to Osphos and maintain clinical improvements for 6 months, Osphos should be re administered after clinical signs recur. Horses should be monitored for at least 2 hours following administration for signs of colic, agitation, and or nervous system abnormalities. If a horse appears uncomfortable, nervous, or experiences cramping post treatment it is advised to hand walk the horse for 15 minutes until signs resolve. Contact the veterinarian if the horse displays abnormal clinical signs. Osphos should not be used in pregnant or lactating mares, or mares intended for breeding. The safe use of Osphos has not been evaluated in horses less than 4 years of age. Use of Osphos in patients with conditions affecting renal function or mineral or electrolyte homeostasis is not recommended. Allergic reactions to medications may occur.
