Description: Ursodiol is a naturally occurring bile acid used to treat certain liver and gallbladder conditions in animals, including cholestasis (blocked or slowed bile flow) and biliary sludge. This product is a tablet formulation. Used to treat various liver and gallbladder conditions in dogs and cats, including chronic liver and or bile duct inflammation. Helps to restore healthy liver function, reduce symptoms, and slow chronic disease progression. Do not use this medication in certain species, including rabbits, guinea pigs, and rodents, as liver toxicity may occur. May be prescribed for other animal species; please consult your veterinarian. Active Ingredients: Ursodiol Usage: Ursodiol Tablets should be given orally as directed by your veterinarian. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule. This medication works best when given with food, which may also help reduce GI side effects (e.g., nausea) and mask its bitter taste. Missed Doses: Administer the dose as soon as possible. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with the regular schedule. Do not give more medication than prescribed or two doses at once. Side Effects: Ursodiol is usually well tolerated in dogs and cats. The most common side effects are diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Giving this medication with food may help decrease or prevent these effects. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your pet experiences severe vomiting; lowered energy level or weakness; or yellowing of the skin, whites of the eyes, and or gums. Notify your veterinarian if your pet experiences any of the effects described above, or if you notice any other side effects that are persistent or troublesome. Precautions: This medication should NOT be administered this medication to certain species, including rabbits, guinea pigs, and rodents. These animals metabolize the medication differently, which results in the formation of a toxic substance that can cause serious liver damage and toxicity. Do NOT administer this medication to animals with complete bile duct blockage, or those with a rare liver condition called vanishing bile duct syndrome. Use with caution in animals with certain liver conditions (e.g., cholangitis, cholangiohepatitis) or complications related to gallstones. Safe use of this medication has not been established in breeding, pregnant, or lactating animals. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian if your pet is in one of these groups. Do not administer to animals with a known history or suspected allergy hypersensitivity to this medication or any of its ingredients. Allergic reactions to medications mayoccur.
