Tildren for Horses 500 mg, 30 ml vial
DESCRIPTION: Tildren works to control the clinical signs associated with navicular syndrome. It is infused intravenously, and it is a sterile, powdered bisphosphonated drug containing 500 mg Tiludronic Acid (as Tiludronate Sodium) and 250 mg Mannitol, USP. Key Benefits: This bisphosphonate medication is made for intravenous infusion. Every vial offers 500 mg Tiludronic Acid (as Tiludronate Sodium) and 250 mg Mannitol, USP. Tiludronic Acid Sodium Salt is also known as Tiludronate Disodium, a bisphosphonate that is the hydrated hemihydrate of Tiludronic Acid Disodium Salt. Formulated For: Intended for horses 4 years and older. How is Medication Given? When administering, never reconstitute or combine with any calcium-containing solution or solvent with divalent cations, including Lactated Ringers. These can create complexes. 1) Reconstitute TILDREN with careful aseptic technique. Combine 25mL of sterile Sodium Chloride Injection, USP (0.9%) from 1-liter bag with one TILDREN vial. Gently shake to dissolve powder fully. In 1 mL of reconstituted solution, there are 20 mg Tiludronate Disodium. Further dilution will be required prior to injection. 2) With careful aseptic technique, withdraw the correct volume of solution for your horse's body weight. Inject the correct volume back into Sodium Chloride injection bag (0.9% USP). Horses weighing more than 1210 pounds will need another vial of reconstituted solution. Prior to infusion, invert infusion bag for mixing purposes. Bag should be labeled to ensure appropriate use. Once prepared, administer infusion with 2 hours or store for 24 hours or less in the refrigerator at a temperature between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius (36 to 46 degrees Fahrenheit). Protect from exposure to light. 3) Infuse with a proper IV catheter in jugular vein. Connect to infusion bag with disposable and sterile tubing. Administer one fuse intravenously at adosage rate of 1 mg per kg of body weight (or 0.45 mg per pound). Administer evenly and slowly over the course of a 90-minute period to prevent side effects. Maximum effect could take up to 2 months. What Results Can I Expect? Tildren is used in horses with navicular syndrome. What Form Does Medication Come In? Injectable Dose and Administration: Sold in a vial containing 30 mL (500 mg). Possible Side Effects: Potential adverse reactions include: Colic Injection site swelling Injection site hematoma Frequent urination Muscle fasciculations Polyuria Polydipsia Inappetence Anorexia Fever Gastric ulcers Impaction of the large colon Death Precautions: Never administer to a horse with known hypersensitivity to Tiludronate Sodium or Mannitol. Never administer to a horse with a history of impaired renal function or renal disease. Because bisphosphonates are excreted by the animal's kidneys, an enhanced risk of side effects exists in animals with a condition that causes renal impairment. Keep out of reach of children. Not for human use. Do not use in horses intended for human consumption. Do not use in pregnant, lactating, or breeding animals. Around 30 to 45% of horses show signs of abdominal pain (colic), which are temporary. They may be seen right after administration, and they could be related to alterations in intestinal motility. Monitor the horse for 4 hours post-infusion to be sure there are no clinical signs that indicate an adverse reaction, such as colid. Colic symptoms could last around 90 minutes, and they may be intermittent. Hand-walking can improve or resolve this effect. Never administer concomitantly with any NSAID, as renal toxicity can occur. If the horse needs medical therapy, a non-NSAID treatment should be used. Proper washout periods should be observed between using Tildren and withdrawing NSAID use. Storage Recommendations: Store powder in a cool and dry location 20-25 degrees C ( 68-77 degrees F). After reconstituion, the infusion it can be stored for up to 24 hours under refrigeration at 2-8 degrees C (36-46 degrees F). Shield from light.
