DESCRIPTION: Acetylcysteine 20% Solution, USP is orally-administered as an antidote to Acetaminophen, or inhaled as a mucolytic agent. It is also available in a sterile, unpreserved solution (not for injection). It acts as a mucolytic to clear material and mucus that can affect breathing. Key Benefits: Acetylcysteine is a natural amino acid. This solution is mucolytic, which means it aids in the clearing of mucus. It also eliminates material trapped in the animal's mucus, which could inhibit breathing and other bodily functions. Formulated For: For dogs and cats only. How is Medication Given? Follow your veterinarian's directions when using this product. What Results Can I Expect? Acetylcysteine 20% Solution can be used for the treatment of Acetaminophen poisoning, or as an adjunct treatment for abnormal, viscid, or inpissated mucus secretions. What Form Does Medication Come In? Liquid Dose and Administration: Sold in a vial containing 30 mL. Possible Side Effects: With a prescription from a veterinarian, Acetylcysteine is proven safe and effective. Certain animals may experience an adverse reaction, such as drooling or nausea. Precautions: Keep out of reach of children and animals. Do not inject. Tell your veterinarian about all other medications your pet is taking prior to use, as interactions may occur, particularly with product containing activated charcoal. This product should not be used in an animal with acetaminophen toxicity, as safety has not been proven. Administer cautiously if your pet has lung disease or is predisposed to airway spasm, as this can cause spasms in the lower airway. Do not administer to a hypersensitive animal. Storage Recommendations: Store at room temperature between 68-77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C). After opening contents, refrigeration is required between 36 degrees F - 46 degrees F (2 degrees C and 8 degrees C). Color changes may occur, this does not affect efficacy. After 96 hours of an open vial, discard. In Case of Overdose: Contact the nearest emergency pet clinic.
