DESCRIPTION Triamcinolone Acetonide Injectable Suspension is a steroid that works to treat pain, suppress the immune system, and treat inflammation in horses, cats, and dogs. It may also be used to treat acute arthritis or skin and allergy conditions. Key Benefits: Triamcinolone works to decrease inflammation by preventing cells from releasing important immune chemicals. These chemicals are often involved in the production of allergic or immune responses. Decreasing these chemicals in specific areas reduces inflammation. This is helpful in controlling a broad range of diseases associated with excessive inflammation, such as arthritis-related joint inflammation and asthma-related lung inflammation. Formulated For: Intended for horses, cats and dogs only. How is Medication Given? For horses, the recommended dosage rate is 0.01 to 0.02 mg of Triamcinolone Acetonide for every pound of body weight. This dose should be administered in a single dose. Typically, the full dose will range from 12 mg to 20 mg. For cats or dogs, the recommended dosage rate is 0.05 to 0.1 mg per pound for the treatment of allergic or inflammatory disorders, or 0.1 mg per pound for dermatological disorders. Symptom remission will typically last for 7 to 15 days. Thereafter, if the symptoms return, dosing may be repeated, or corticosteroid treatment can be initiated. For intrasynovial or intra-articular administration in horses, cats, or dogs, the dosage rate will be based upon symptom severity and the size of the affected joint(s). One injection of 6 to 18 mg is recommended for horses, and one injection of 1 to 3 mg is recommended for dogs or cats. 3 or 4 days later, treatment may be repeated, based on the animal's response and symptom severity. If the initial result is too temporary or inadequate, the dosage rate may be increased. However, the recommended dosage rate should never be exceeded. Proper aseptic technique is essential before every intra-articular injection. The administrator should fully understand anatomic relationships. Accidentally administering into the soft tissue around the joint is not dangerous, but it is the most common culprit of unexpected inadequate results. After intra-articular injection, local symptoms, such as pain, could occur temporarily before the effect of the medication is seen. However, increased joint discomfort is uncommon. A noticeable increase in pain that accompanies malaise, fever, more restricted joint motion, or local swelling suggests septic arthritis. If these symptoms are noted, and sepsis diagnosis is confirmed, antimicrobials should be used right away, and treatment should continue until the infection (and all evidence thereof) has resolved. For intralesional injection, the typical recommended dose is 1.2 mg to 1.8 mg of Triamcinolone Acetonide. Circumscribe injections around the lesion in many sites for proper dose distribution. Space injections 0.5 to 2.5 cm apart, based on the lesion size. Dose spacing will also reduce pressure and pain necrosis. A single injection site dose should never exceed 0.6 mg. This will minimize atrophy and intolerance of the local tissue. Make the injection well into the cutis to prevent epidermal rupture. If you are treating a cat or dog with many lesions, never exceed 6 mg total. Re-treatment can be given, as needed. Use a tuberculin syringe equipped with a small bore (23 to 25 gauge) needle for accurate dose measurement and easy administration. Do not use to treat a fungal or viral infection. Never administer prior to surgery, as wound healing can be delayed.
