Meloxidyl Oral Suspension can be given either mixed with food or placed directly into the mouth. Please consult your veterinarian before making any changes or discontinuing the prescribed dosing schedule. Meloxidyl Oral Suspension is packaged with 2 sizes of dosing syringes. The small syringe (blue print) is calibrated for use in dogs under 15 lbs. The large syringe (green print) is calibrated for use in dogs 15 lbs or greater. Side Effects: The most common side effects of this medication are vomiting, diarrhea/soft stools, and decreased appetite. All dogs should undergo a thorough history and physical examination from a veterinarian before initiating treatment with this product. Lab work is recommended prior to and periodically while your pet is taking this medication. The safe use of Meloxidyl Oral Suspension in dogs younger than 6 months of age, dogs used for breeding, or in pregnant or lactating dogs has not been evaluated. Discuss the risks of using this medication with your veterinarian if your pet is in one of these groups. Meloxicam Oral Suspension is not recommended for usein dogs with bleeding disorders, as safety has not been established in dogs with these disorders. As a class, NSAIDs may be associated with gastrointestinal, kidney, and liver toxicity. Sensitivity to drug-associated adverse events varies with the individual patient. The risk of kidney toxicity is greater in patients that are dehydrated, at risk of becoming dehydrated (e.g., taking a diuretic medication), or those with preexisting kidney, heart, and/or liver dysfunction. Since NSAIDs possess the potential to induce gastrointestinal ulcerations and/or perforations, concomitant use with other anti-inflammatory drugs, such as NSAIDs or corticosteroids, should be avoided. Caution should also be exercised in animals with a history of GI ulcers or that have a predisposition to excessive bleeding (or that are taking an anticoagulant). Do not administer to animals with a known history or suspected allergy/hypersensitivity to any NSAID medication, including this product or any of its ingredients.
